How do I become a member of B.Y.E?
We hold auditions twice a year; usually at the beginning of our season, in September, and then again in the beginning of the new year, generally some time in the month of January. To sign up to audition for B.Y.E, please visit our AUDITIONS page. Fill out the information requested, and about two weeks before our auditions, we will contact you with instructions and information.
Is there a cost to be a member?
Yes. Dues are $250.00 per season, and members are required to purchase a BYE performance shirt at the cost of $25.00. If cost is an issue for you, please contact us. No child will ever be denied membership due to fiscal difficulties.
What is your rehearsal schedule?
GENERAL REHEARSALS
GENERAL REHEARSALS
- Our regular rehearsal schedule is light, usually two rehearsals per month, normally on Sunday evenings.
- Rehearsals generally start at 5:30 or 6:30, and end by 8:30 pm
- Rehearsals are held in Manhattan on 48th St, between 8th and 9th Avenues.
- Attendance for each regular rehearsal is strongly recommended, but not mandatory.
Does the schedule change when you prepare for an event?
Yes.
EVENT REHEARSALS - when we have a particular event, we schedule extra, mandatory rehearsals for that particular event.
In addition:
To attend our major events and showcase, you must participate in TWO outreach performances in each semester. Outreach performances are always labeled as such on the sign ups and include personal performances for children’s hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

Are the members required to perform at every event?
No. We completely recognize these kids (and you!) are very busy, so we understand, and do not expect, you to be available for every event we do. This is one reason we have a large group; to be able to cover ourselves for these events.

Is every member guaranteed to perform at every event?
No. While most performances allow for as many members that sign-up to perform, there are times when we face restrictions due to things like the venue size, or client requests. In those situations the directors reserve the right to decide who will perform.
Also - Members are required to have their musical parts and choreography rehearsed and memorized by the dress rehearsal of an event. The directors reserve the right to prohibit a member from a performance if during dress rehearsal they find a member does not know the material to their satisfaction.

Once you are a member, are you required to do any further preparation or practice?
Yes. To help the kids prepare the material they will need to know for events, you will receive sheet music, and we have rehearsal tracks, and sometimes videos, online for you to work with at home. Members are strongly encouraged to work with a vocal teacher; if you do not have a vocal teacher we are available for private tutoring. Please contact us to schedule lessons.
